Driving Sustainability Forward
Sustainability is not an option at Epsilyte; it is our responsibility. As North America’s largest EPS producers, we develop materials that conserve energy, extend product life, and reduce waste. Our EPS supports applications from insulated panels and geofoam to packaging and healthcare. Through advanced technologies, responsible sourcing, and recycling infrastructure, we help customers meet their environmental targets with proven, high-performance solutions. Our work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, driving progress on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and climate responsibility.
Three Pillars of Sustainable EPS
Biodegradable* Solutions
Epsilyte designs EPS formulations that support circular design, enabling reuse, recycling, and recovery. We are scaling recycling initiatives at our Piqua, Ohio facility and applying proprietary biodegradable technology for products where recycling is not possible. These solutions behave more like organic waste under landfill conditions and can even help produce renewable energy.
Lower Carbon Footprint
Our insulative materials support significant energy savings by improving thermal performance in buildings. By reducing heating and cooling demands, these products help lower overall energy consumption and decrease the embodied carbon impact of projects. Incorporating recycled content further supports customers who are working toward more sustainable and energy efficient design goals.
Purpose-Built for Longevity
Epsilyte products are designed for applications where durability matters. In construction panels or protective equipment, they perform reliably over time, helping conserve resources by reducing the need for replacement.

Our Sustainability Values
- We believe that energy conservation is critical to a carbon-neutral future.
- We are dedicated to transparent, science-based, and accurate reporting on the value of our advanced materials.
- We emphasize safety, health, and sustainable chemistry in all that we do.
- We make decisions that consider the REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE hierarchy within the current infrastructure and capabilities.
- We own our material’s End-of-Life impact.
The REDUCE–REUSE–RECYCLE Hierarchy
Reduce
Our EPS is 98% air once expanded. By putting air to work in construction, packaging, and specialty applications, we reduce the amount of raw material required without sacrificing performance.
Reuse
Durable applications such as construction and protective products extend the useful life of EPS, ensuring fewer resources are consumed over time.
Recycle
We invest in recycling infrastructure to reclaim post-consumer EPS and reprocess it into new products, from packaging to safety gear.
Recovery
When recycling is not possible, we enable recovery with biodegradable technology designed to break down EPS under anaerobic landfill conditions. The byproducts of this process can be used for renewable energy production, turning waste into a resource.
Certifications and Standards
ICC-ES Certification
Issued by International Code Council (ICC, this certification independently verifies that Epsilyte EPS meets building code requirements for safety, performance, and reliability, ensuring trusted use in construction.
SCS Recycled Content Certification
Issued by SCS Global Services, this certification confirms the percentage of recycled material in our products. It provides third-party validation of our commitment to reducing reliance on virgin polystyrene.
ASTM D5511 Biodegradability Testing
Participation in ASTM D5511 demonstrates our commitment to assessing the end-of-life behavior of our materials, specifically under anaerobic conditions. This testing helps validate the performance of our biodegradable EPS.
UL US & CA Certification
UL certification confirms that Epsilyte EPS meets strict safety and performance standards, ensuring trusted compliance for construction applications in both U.S. and Canadian markets.
Epsilyte’s Product Stewardship
Epsilyte takes ownership of responsible production, sustainability, and the highest achievable industry standards. We commit to environmental stewardship, safety, and quality through our product stewardship. See our certifications below. These confirm our continued dedication to reducing environmental impact while delivering high-performance, advanced materials.
